Are you a Treasure Seeker?

Updated: Jun 23, 2023

So many things can try to catch our eye and capture our heart, but as a child of God, it is so important to seek the things with eternal value – the True Treasures.

First of all, we are to SEEK HIM -- He is a worthy treasure! “And ye shall seek me, and find me, when ye shall search for me with all your heart.” Jeremiah 29: 13

There are truly "treasures unseen" for the Child of God. Although concealed from the world’s values and unable for them to view with their physical eye, these are worthy of our time and pursuits. Through the eye of faith, we can see and experience these treasures He has given; they have priceless value in God’s economy.

~ THE TREASURE OF HIS WORD ~ Psalm 19:10-11 compares His Words to being more desirable than gold and promises a great reward to those who keep His precepts! “More to be desired are they than gold, yea, than much fine gold: sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.”

The Bible is an unceasing treasure that can never be exhausted by the child of God – dig into His Word – enjoy the unending wealth of His Precepts and His Promises as you Trust and Obey!

~ THE TREASURE OF HIS WILL ~ Matthew 6:33 contains a special promise for those who seek FIRST the eternal kingdom of God! “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” You will never be disappointed or “come up short” as you seek His Divine Will, placing Him first, in all you do.

Let God’s ideas and His plans always take precedence and prominence – He will never fail you and will always provide and make a way -- for your good and His glory! (Romans 8:28)

~ THE TREASURE OF HIS WORK ~ Notice how the Bible describes the gifts of His people when invested into His work: “And some of the chief of the fathers, when they came to the house of the Lord which is at Jerusalem, offered freely for the house of God to set it up in his place: They gave after their ability unto the treasure of the work …” (Ezra 2:68-69) These people gave what they were able to give – and their gifts included gold, silver, garments, etc!

What do you have of your “ability” to give and invest into God’s House and His work? It is a worthy investment! You can never out-give God. Your gifts of time, talents, and treasure can yield ETERNAL dividends.

~ THE TREASURE OF HIS WISDOM ~ A wise person is one who fears the Lord (Proverbs 9:10) and seeks to hear His voice. “If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God. For the Lord giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding.” Wisdom is a gift from God, simply given when we ask! (James 1:5) God’s wisdom yields eternal reward in our lives and is in direct opposition to the wisdom of the world. (James 3:15-17) The Bible gives us a clear definition: “But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.” Have you unearthed this treasure? Can others see His wisdom in your actions and attitude?

There is treasure to be desired and oil in the dwelling of the wise...” Proverbs 21:20 ~ Wisdom is a desirable treasure and should be evident and experienced in our Christian homes with the oil of the Holy Spirit!

~ THE TREASURE OF WINNING SOULS ~ Jesus gave EVERYTHING because He knew the VALUE of ONE SOUL. Matthew 13:44-46 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field. Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.”

Will you have the joy of souls in heaven with you? Are you placing the highest priority on the time and effort involved to win them to Christ? Have you given up anything in your life to reach even one soul for His kingdom?

The world will not be able to experience the wealth of these treasures – but we as God’s children can – as we set our affection on things above! (Colossians 3:1-2) Reflect on the timeless words that Jesus spoke in Matthew 6:19-21, revealing the treasure of our heart: “ Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

Where is YOUR treasure dear Christian? Let’s endeavor to seek the TRUE TREASURES He has revealed in His Word!
